- To announce the launch of Bharat-2 Plus, Bharat-3, and Bharat-4 in the next fortnight, aiming to aggressively pursue customer migration from feature phone to smartphone category
After announcing the sales of half a million Bharat-2 smartphones within 45 days of its launch, Micromax Informatics, India’s leading mobile brand, today confirmed selling 2 million Bharat-2 smartphones by the end of August leading to a power packed festive season. Riding on the success of Bharat-2, Micromax is aiming at further strengthening the “first-time user category” and will be expanding the Bharat-Series with 3 new smartphones- Bharat-2 plus, Bharat-3 and Bharat-4, which will all be available in the offline retail stores within the next fortnight. Keeping the endeavor of leading the change in the consumer behavior and bringing affordable innovations, the company has come up with the best in class VoLTE phones. The Bharat Series is the only Google certified series of smartphones in the budget category in the Indian handset market.
The Bharat-Series is aimed at the acquisition of the first generation smartphone users in the country who till now were looking at their opportunity to migrate from a feature phone. The range is targeted to bring in the next phase of smartphone adoption in the country by hand-holding consumers to upgrade from feature phones to smartphones. Greater device affordability will drive increased smartphone adoption and VoLTE adoption in the country. At the end of 2016, more than 90 percent of the telecom subscriptions in India were using 3G and 4G services. There is still a huge gap in terms of VoLTE adoption as there is lack of affordable VoLTE smartphones in the budget category, which will be catered now by the Bharat-range of smartphones.
Between the Bharat series of smartphones, Micromax intends to bring the better camera, battery and display options for the new smartphone users. The Bharat-3 and Bharat-4 phones come with some of the compelling features in the budget category like Smart Key, 22 Indian language support, OTG support and more. The Bharat 2 Plus will come with the 5MP rear camera, 1600 mAh battery, latest Android N and much more.
Commenting on the success and expansion of Bharat Series Rahul Sharma, Co-Founder, Micromax Informatics said “There is a lot of scope for innovation for getting the next set of Indian telecom consumers on the data and VoLTE adoption and Micromax as always is looking at expanding the category by bringing the best of the technology to the masses. Some of the Indian carriers have also shown the vision to get the feature to smartphone migration kicked off and we welcome all possible support in this mission of connected India. There are more than 400 million feature phone users who are waiting to move to smartphones that give the experience without straining their budgets. The exception acceptance of Bharat-2 is a testimony of our vision and also goes to prove that there is a huge appetite for budget VoLTE smartphones amongst the Indian telecom subscriber. Hence, we are further working towards fulfilling the need gap for our consumers and with the expansion of Bharat -series we believe that we will truly drive the next phase of smartphone adoption in the country.”
He added, “The less than budget category currently contributes close to 25% of the market and moving ahead we expect the Bharat-series to approximately 25% to the Micromax’ s portfolio.”
