Apple, which is the second largest brand in the world is now going to start manufacturing its iPhone 7 in India. In addition to iPhone SE and iPhone 6S, thus widening its Made in India portfolio.
Apple said in its statement to ET that “we are proud to be producing iPhone 7 in Bangalore for local customers, furthering a long term commitment in India“. The manufacturing has been started in March with the contract manufacturer Wistron. The cost for making iPhone 7 devices in India will be cheaper than importing them because of Duty concessions any handset maker gets on local manufacturing. A move boosted for improving government make in India initiative.
While the device segment remains hard to crack for Apple it will be interesting to see the launch of the companies content services. the company will set up an iPhone making unit with employing up to 10,000 people on land of approx. 43 acres. iPhone 7 runs iOS 12 it is also water-resistant and houses a 12 MP camera, HD retina display, a great battery life, and stereo speakers.
The iPhone 7 32GB variant will cost around Rs. 39,900 while 128GB will cost around Rs. 49,900. Apple has already begun to reduce its price in China, it may vary in India soon.
