What exactly rooting a phone is? To get the root access to the Android operating system is known as rooting. The term is equivalent to jailbreaking of Apple devices. Rooting gives you the privilege to modify the software code on the device or install other software that the manufacturer would not normally allow you to do. In this article, I’m going to explain how to root Samsung Galaxy S7?
The Samsung Galaxy S7, launched last year by Samsung, made a huge impact in the smartphone industry. Samsung worked really hard on the device. Though the device is combined with high quality hardware and performance, the users can root the smartphone.
Users using Galaxy S7 that runs on Snapdragon 820 will have to work hard to root the smartphone since the US version comes with some unpleasant surprises, as in, the Snapdragon model comes with the locked bootloader.
To begin with the Exynos-powered Galaxy S7, the first step will be unlocking your device’s bootloader which means that you will lose all the data on your phone and your warranty will become void. You all need, is a Windows PC and a reliable USB data cable to use this method.
How To Root Samsung Galaxy S7?
Step 1: Enabling ‘OEM Unlocking’
To get started, you need to enable a hidden setting on your device. What all you need to do is, enable the “Developer options” menu.
After completing with the task above, go to your device’s main settings menu and open the Developer options submenu. From there enable the “OEM unlock” option before continuing. The step is mandatory.
Step 2: Connecting to the PC & Booting the Download Mode
Turn off your smartphone. Simultaneously, press and hold the power, home and volume down buttons. This will help take you to the download mode where you’ll need to verify your choice by pressing the volume up button. After completing the task, plug your phone into the PC.
Step 3: Download the Samsung USB Drivers
To have a copy of the Samsung USB drivers, head to the following link on your PC. The file is an exe file, so you need to simply launch it and then install the drivers on your system.
Step 4: Download & Extract the CF Auto Root & Odin
Now you need to grab a copy of CF Auto root. CF Auto root is a tool which will actually root your device. Link is provided below for you to have a copy of the utility.
After downloading the utility for the particular model, extract the contents from the Zip into the folder (that will be easily accessible) and leave it open.
Step 5: Run Odin as an Administrator
Now, you need to right-click on the Odin3-v3.10.6.exe file that you had extracted from the CF Auto Root ZIP and run it as administrator. The root utility won’t run properly without administrator privileges, so this is an important step.
Step 6: Root Your Phone
Click “AP” button in the middle of the screen from the Odin’s main menu. Now start using the menu to select the CF Auto Root tar.md5 file from the ZIP you extracted earlier.
Now, you’ll need to do is wait for a few seconds until the log tab shows a message, that says “leave CS”. Then, click the “start” button to root your device. Your device will reboot back into Android after completing the root process automatically.
Step 7: Verifying Root
After the above step when you will turn on your device, your device should be fully rooted. You can download an app namely, Root Checker to ensure that your device has been rooted. While using the Root Checker app, if you are granted the Superuser access, which means that your device has been properly rooted or the root access has been granted to you successfully.

ROOT SAMSUNG GALAXY S7 (US Model)
Step 1: Downloading Files to Your PC
You need to download two files to your PC to get started.
1. Engineering boot image
Step 1-1: Putting your Phone into Download Mode and Connecting to the PC
Turn off your device. Then, press and hold the power, home and the colume down buttons which will take you to the download mode menu, where you will have to verify your choice by pressing the volume up button. Once completed, using a USB data cable, connect your phone to the PC. Once you’ve done that, plug your phone into your PC with a USB data cable.
Step 2: Using Flash Engineering Boot Image with Odin
Create a back-up of your phone on your PC and then, extract the ModifiedODIN.zip file downloaded in the step 1 by you. Then, right click the OdinPrinceComsy.exe file and it as an administrator.
From Odin’s main menu, you’ll need to click the “AP” button in the middle of the screen. Then, browse to select use the G93xEngineeringBoot.tar file using the file browser menu that you downloaded earlier.
Now, you’ll need to do is wait for a few seconds until the log tab shows a message, that says “leave CS”. Then, click the “start” button to flash the engineering boot image. After this, your device will reboot automatically. Disconnect the USB data cable from the PC when the phone is on reboot mode.
Step 3: Performing a Factory Reset
This step is a little harder. You can get away without performing this step, but it won’t wipe out all the data from your device.
If your device successfully booted back into Android, simply power off the device to begin. Now, to enter the recovery mode, press and hold the home, power, and volume up buttons.
But, if your phone gets stuck in a bootloop, you will have to try a different button combination i.e., simultaneously press and hold the power and volume down buttons to force a reboot. Then, after the screen goes black, press and hold the home, power, and volume up buttons to enter the recovery mode.
To select the “Wipe data/factory reset” option use the volume buttons to highlight, from here press the power button. Now you need to highlight and select the “Yes” option to perform a factory reset. Reboot your phone by selecting the “Reboot system now” option, when you’re done. It will take up to 10 to 15 minutes to complete booting.
Step 4: Running Through the Initial Setup
Once completing with the reboot process, you’ll be prompted by Android’s initial setup guide. Continue and log in with your Google account and finally finalize the setup.
Step 5: Installing ADB on your PC and Enabling the USB Debugging on your Phone
After successfully installing the engineering boot image and getting Android back up, your device is ready to be rooted. Now, you will need to install ADB on your compute and the enable USB debugging on your device.
After that, connect your device to the PC again. Now, you will be prompted with a message on your phone asking if you would like to allow access from this PC. Press the always allow and then, OK.
Step 6: Downloading and Extracting the Rooted Files
Now, download the files that will root your device onto the PC. For this, you can download the SuperSU root file.
Now, extract the contents of the ZIP and copy them to the platform-tools folder in your ADB installation directory. This folder might be located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools.
Step 7: Rooting your Device
After copying the files, press and hold the shift button on your keyboard, then right-click any empty space in this folder. Then, choose “Open command window.”
Now, in the command prompt, you need to simply type root.bat and then press enter. Now you are almost ready to go.
Step 8: Rebooting
Your device will be automatically reboot when it is done. But if not, reboot your device manually. But, if your phone gets stuck in a bootloop, you will have to try a different factory reset. That means going back to Step 4 for instructions. After that, you can disconnect your phone from your PC.
Step 9: Verify Root
Your device should be fully rooted by now. You can download a Root Checker app to verify whether your device has been rooted. To verify just tap the verify root and tap grant to the super user access.

Once you’ve installed the app, simply open it up and tap “Verify Root.” From here, tap “Grant” when prompted to give the app Superuser access, which means that your device has been properly rooted or the root access has been granted to you successfully.
