Caterpillar Inc’s flagship product — the Cat S60 mobile is all set to launch in India this March. Cat S60 mobile is their flagship product which is famously known for its thermal imaging camera. The price of the S60 mobile has not been revealed yet but the company says that it will occupy the premium segment.

The thermal sensor on the Cat S60 mobile works in tandem with a regular 13-megapixel rear camera and allows the thermal Lepton module to focus on the details in the frame. The camera is built upon FLIR’s MSX technology which enables S60 mobile to sense up to 30 meters and detect heat signatures from -20 degree Celsius up to 120 degree Celsius. The infrared sensor shows information in real-time with the FLIR sensor calibrating to the environment every few seconds. There are some amazing set of psychedelic-like filters that displays the thermal information in different heat palettes.

The device is dust and waterproof and can survive depths of up to 5 meters for a duration of 60 minutes. It comes with a Lockdown Switch on the front of the device which lets the user configure the waterproofing system from 2 meters to 5 meters. The smartphone can also shoot photographs and videos underwater as it is also resistant to humidity and can withstand harshest of the environment. The Cat S60 mobile has also been tested to survive drops up to 1.8 meters.

The Cat S60 mobile is targeted towards people who are involved in extreme and adventure sports or are working in harsh environments.

Coming to the specifications, the Cat S60 mobile is a Dual-SIM smartphone that features a 4.7-inch HD Gorilla Glass 4, a-Si (amorphous silicon) AHVA(Advanced Hyper-Viewing Angle) display technology. The AHVA tech ensures that the picture and colour quality remains the same at every viewing angle. It also helps the smartphone to be usable with wet fingers or wearing gloves.

Under the rugged hood, the Cat S60 mobile runs on an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 with 3GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage capacity. The S60 runs a stock Android 6.0 Marshmallow with some additional user-removable software provided by the company to enhance the user experience. The Cat S60 also comes with a separate app store that essentially curates different apps for people with different needs.

The S60 also sports a 13-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and a front facing 5-megapixel camera.

On the connectivity front, the smartphone comes with the usual set of communication modules such as Wi-Fi, 4G LTE support, Bluetooth among others.

There is a separate, physical SOS button that is user-configurable which a user can set for up to three phone numbers. In an emergency situation, on pressing the button, the last known geo-location of the device will be sent to those three numbers.
