Xiaomi Begins Android 8.1 Oreo Testing For Mi A1, Stable Update To Be Out Soon

Under the Android One Programme in collaboration with Google, Xiaomi launched its Mi A1 in September 2017 with an objective of keeping the Android version updated in the coming years. Both Google and Xiaomi decided to follow regular security patch updates every month along with Android Oreo in 2017 for Mi A1.

Closed Beta Oreo 8.0 testing was initiated by the firm in mid-December and Oreo 8.0 was made public on the 31st of December. Due to stability problems, the company eliminated the Android Oreo 8.0 update within two weeks of its release.

As Mi A1 was launched under the Android One Programme, it was supposed to get the Android Oreo 8.1 update but the company did not roll out any specific time for the same. As per the sources, the company has started releasing the Oreo 8.1 update on the 14th of June to closed Beta users. Oreo 8.1 update also involves the June security patch. However, the company hasn’t added any treble support to Mi A1 yet.

Around the beginning of June, MIUI 10 Global ROM was announced by Xiaomi at an event held in India. The company has already begun MIUI Beta testing for few of its Mi series devices.

Mi A1 users may expect the Android 8.1 Oreo update on their device at the end of this month or in July. Mi A1 may also be amongst the first devices to get Android P update as promised by the company during the launch, but it will take some time till the promise is fulfilled.

Mi A1 comes with a 5.50-inch touchscreen display. It has a resolution of 1080 pixels by 1920 pixels. Mi A1 is available in India starting from Rs.17,000. The device is bundled with features like 2GHz Octa-core processor, 4GB of RAM, internal storage space of 64GB that can be expanded up to 128GB with a MicroSD card.

Mi A1 provides a 12-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The phone’s battery is backed by a 3080mAh non-removable cell. With a thickness of 168.00 grams, the Mi A1 runs on Android 7.1.2. It is a dual sim phone supporting Nano-SIM and Nano-SIM. Connectivity features involve WiFi, GPS, Infrared, Bluetooth, USB OTG, 3G and G along with sensors like Compass/Magnometer, Proximity Sensor, Gyroscope, Accelerometer and Ambient Light sensor.
